Description

:faint: I have finally finished this! :la:

Remember these two? -> animehorses4eva.deviantart.com… yeah...I don't even like looking at that old picture of them. -shudders-

Since I've found a new site to read the manga on and I've got caught up on the story line and everything I felt the desperate urge to redraw/design my original characters for Kuroshitsuj. And low and behold, the costumes and hair styles actually match for the time period! -gasp- :XD:

Dorothy's hair is based off an actual picture I found of a young woman who sported the same hair style, I fell in love with it and decided it would suit Miss Dot (of course had to modify it slightly so it went with the hairstyles of the women in the manga). Dorothy's dress is also based on an actual 1880s day dress I found on google, that dress caused me some difficulty, it took me FOREVER to try to find the right colours for it, I knew I wanted the red, but the main dress and the drag hem were the problem children. :XD: Finally I got a colour I was happy with. :giggle:

All right! On to their character stats! This is also quite long, just a forewarning

More info/ Backstory: Dorothy "Dot" Barrymore was born of Henry Barrymore and Elizabeth Barrymore. Elizabeth died when Dot was only five years old.
Elizabeth was of noble statue in England and fell in love with Henry Barrymore when she visited the town of Houndsworth while her family was on vacation one summer. The two fell in love, against her parent’s wishes and married after a year of seeing each other. The couple had two homes, one in Houndsworth, where Henry became the mayor, and the other was a mansion in London, where Elizabeth’s family lived.

During the first few years of their marriage, the young couple was happy and enjoyed each other’s company. Elizabeth became pregnant with their first child, a boy, but the couple was devastated when he was born still. They buried the infant and said that they would not chance with having another baby. Henry’s personality changed after that event, he became colder and did not smile near as much. He also became more distant and used work as an excuse to be away from Elizabeth and hired a maid to take care of the house in Houndsworth.

One night, though, when Henry came into the house after he had been at the pub drinking he noticed Elizabeth was sitting at the table writing something. When he asked her what it was and she hid it from him his temper rose and he overpowered her and raped her. Elizabeth left Henry after that night, returning to England to live with her parents in the mansion. It was in London that Dorothy was born, Elizabeth wrote to Henry, announcing the birth of their daughter, but refused him to see her. Dorothy lived with her mother and grandparents until her mother died in a riding accident where she was sent to her father, though it was against her mother’s dying wishes.

Dorothy lived with her father from when she was five; Henry knew nothing about raising children so he had the maid take care of her for the most of the time. Henry was protective of his only child and kept Dorothy under tight supervision. Though something’s never changed, Henry’s temper continued to get the best of him, without thinking most of the time he took her anger out on his daughter.

Dorothy attempted to avoid her father at all costs, either by keeping herself in her room reading or writing or riding her horse into the village and spent her time conversing with the villagers and making friends with the people of the town of Houndsworth. Though making friends didn’t fill the void of her lost mother and Dorothy would cry herself to sleep many nights. When Dorothy turned sixteen her father didn’t bother himself with finding a suitor for Dorothy and no one ever came to call on her because everyone in the village feared her father and no one dared to get on his bad side.

Dorothy was aware of the punishments her father ordered for those who broke the law and tried her best to save some of the people and animals from his wrath by warning them at night, but she couldn’t save everyone. One day when she was too upset to think she tacked her horse up and rode to the outskirts of the town and climbed one of the trees to look up at the sky and clear her head. Tears were streaming down her face and she had lost all hope in God, if there was one why was he allowing her father to do such things to innocent people and animals? It was also at this time when she heard a dog bark, when she looked down, she saw a large reddish-brown dog looking up at her and wagging its tail, she climbed down from the tree and petted the dog’s head. She walked to the horse and noted she wished there was some way she could change things, and that was when the dog transformed into a man, he stated that he was a demon and could help her with her wish, in exchange for her soul. Dorothy agreed without thinking twice, sacrificing her beautiful voice to seal the contract between the demon and herself. “James” as the demon was called afterwards became Dorothy’s servant after her father decided it was best to hire help for he could not be bothered with trying to take care of a girl who could not speak.

Dorothy had James save as many dogs as possible from the sport of “Bully the Dog” that her father allowed as a form of punishment. When Ciel and Sebastian came to Houndsworth to end the rituals she was overjoyed, even more so when her father was killed. After her father died, she received a letter from her grandparent’s lawyer, stating that they had died and left the mansion to her in their will. Since there was nothing keeping her in Houndsworth, she moved to the London mansion where she became the new lady of the hall.

Dorothy loves animals, but mostly dogs and cats, she owns two dogs, a white and black Papillion and a black Great Dane that travels alongside of the carriage. She has a dapple grey hunter that she rides in the countryside when the weather is nice.
Dorothy loves to go and visit the Undertaker whenever she has the chance.

She has fallen in love with James over the years they have been together, yet she hasn’t found the courage to tell him, she hopes that soon she’ll be able to express her feelings to him.

Dorothy had James teach her a few things over the years which includes playing the cello and fencing. She has become quite skilled with a sword and challenges James to a duel whenever she gets bored with studies. She loves the cello and whenever she isn’t sword-fighting, she is in her room playing tunes on it.

Dorothy and James' views of others
“I have never truly seen him happy; I’d like to believe that when he and my mother were together he was happy then.  I’d like to think that he laughed and talked to her quite often, holding her in his arms and telling her how much he had loved her, but I never saw him in the first few years of my life, I was never told of the reason for that, but I do believe it must have been due to his behaviour towards my mother sometime before I was born.”  (Dorothy talking about her father)
“Oh, she was beautiful!  With a voice that could make flowers grow and tame the wildest beasts.  She had hair the colour of walnuts and eyes as green as the spring meadows.  She only ever showed me kindness, buying me a pony on my third birthday and taught me how to ride and jump at a young age.  I got my love for animals from her.  I miss her, every day I cannot help but think of what she is missing and how much fun she and I would have together, shopping, riding through the countryside and paint it as well.”  (Dorothy talking about her mother)
“I met him once, long ago, though I did receive a letter from him afterwards, I was young when I met him.  I think I am his only family and he mine.  He is a survivor from the war they had between the states, though I know little about it, I was born three years after it ended.  In fact, I don’t believe he fought in the war; he was born during it and wrote me the letter telling me of his circumstances.  He won’t remember who I am, but I would love to see the States, as I have never been out of England before.”  (Dorothy talking about her cousin in America)
“She is a darling young lady and I know that she will make her husband a very happy man.  I admit, I envy her, men adore her kindness and she is promised to someone.  I have no one, everyone is afraid.  I look to her as a sister and enjoy hearing her talk; she has just about everything I’ve ever wanted: a voice, fiance, a family that loves her, and friends.  She is also everything I am not: a lady, polite, and beautiful.  I am happy to call her my friend, but, I envy her...”  (Dorothy talking about Alice Reynolds)
“She is so childish!  I wish I could tell her to stop running about and clinging onto people, and the crying, she needs to stop crying.  But I think I get so annoyed with her because I never was able to act that way when I was her age, I did not have a mother who taught me things, nor did I have a father who bought me presents and such, I certainly didn’t have any siblings to dote upon me.  So, honestly, I think I dislike her so much because I did not have what all she has, and at such a young age too.  I cannot help but smile when she refers to me as ‘Big Sis’ and it makes me swell up with delight when she notes I look ‘cute’ or ‘pretty’, something I am not use to being told.”  (Dorothy about Elizabeth Middleford)

“I do not need these glasses for any purpose whatsoever, but My Lady seems to enjoy seeing me wear them and so I do it to please her.”  James commenting about his glasses
“She is a different kind of woman, different from those that I have observed and different from the few I have encountered.  She is strict, like a mother hen protecting her chicks.  She does not let others talk lowly to her, she becomes flustered and attempts to make herself look bigger, I am sure if she could speak she would let them have hell.  She is hard working and will do some jobs on her own accord, without asking for my assistance.  She doesn’t hide her height, or anything else for that matter.  Where other ladies wouldn’t wear heels so they weren’t taller than males, Miss Dorothy wears them proudly and walks straight and tall when we are in London.  She doesn’t care what others think of her, she only finds her own opinion matters, that is why I am proud to be a butler to such a strong independent woman such as Miss Dorothy.”  James talking about Dorothy

:phew: all right, I do think that is about it for these two. Though they will be receiving a costume update for the Noah's Ark Circus and all the stories I wrote will be re-done. :la:
